PEORIA, Ill -- Proud parents watched their little thespians act out award winning plays Saturday.

The Community Childrens' Theatre of Peoria's annual Drama Festival was Saturday.

Corn Stock Theater in Bradley Park hosted the event.

Children from several area schools participated in the event.

Organizers say childrens' community theater is more than just an opportunity to act..

They believe it teaches kids life skills that are critical to achieving success later in life.

"Our children are learning self esteem, they're learning poise, they're learning stage presence, and they are having a lot of fun while they're doing that. They've been working for 20 weeks on these performances, and this is the culmination of our program.' said

Linda Huff, Fine Arts Coordinator for the Peoria Park District.

The theatre program is holding auditions for 55 cast members for an upcoming production of "Guys and Dolls."
