Event Description

August 23, 2010 Updated Aug 23, 2010 at 9:22 AM CDT

The Start! Heart Walk is an exciting event that takes place throughout the Country at approximately 400 locations. This activity focuses on walking as an important part of a heart healthy lifestyle, while benefiting the American Heart Association. All revenue generated from this event fights cardiovascular diseases and stroke- - AMERICA'S #1 and #3 KILLERS.

Walkers are coordinated by a company leader or team captain. The team focus is then expanded to include family, co-workers and friends who participate in this event and join the team’s fundraising efforts.
There is no registration fee for the event. Walkers who raise $100 or more are eligible for incentives.
As well as honoring survivors, the Start! Heart Walk is an opportunity to take steps towards a healthy lifestyle. Start! Heart Walk promotes the need for physical activity!
Heart Walk participants enjoy walking a 2 mile course. In addition, walkers will achieve the feeling of helping in the fight that will ultimately affect everyone – it’s a fight we can’t afford to lose.
Heart Walk participants can visit three villages at the Heart Walk, including Create Hope, Inspire Change and Celebrate Success. In those villages they can visit the many different booths where they can enjoy health screenings, visit the tribute wall, share their story as a survivor, learn more from fitness experts, enjoy nutritious refreshments, celebrate their fundraising success, get their team photo taken and more!
Start! Heart Walk benefits the American Heart Association’s programs, research and education. Currently, the
American Heart Association invests more than $133 million in valuable research alone. And through educational
efforts, the American Heart Association works to strengthen the chain of survival in communities, educate the public on the signs and symptoms of heart attack and stroke, and increase the number of people receiving early treatment for these events.
Start! Heart Walk sponsors have the chance to activate their contribution through their village home at the Heart Walk. Please contact Melissa Chrisman for more information on Start! Heart Walk Sponsorships.
