RE: Women’s Self-Defense Class
Pekin, IL - February 14, 2013 – Kuk Sool Won of Pekin will offer a Women’s Self-Defense Class on Sunday, February 24 from 1:00p.m. – 4:00p.m. This class is for women only, ages 13 and up. Cost to participate is $20. Call 309-346-3466 to pre-register.
Many people assume self-defense is a fancy martial art kick to the groin or gouging your attacker’s eyes. In reality, self-defense actually means doing everything possible to recognize and avoid potentially dangerous situations. KSN Michael Yates, owner and head instructor of Kuk Sool Won of Pekin, wants women to know that self-defense is about using your brain, not your fists. Yates is often asked, “What do I do if a guy tries to steal my purse?” His answer is always the same. “Give it to him! There is nothing in that purse more valuable than your life.”
There are times when a woman has no choice but to fight back. “It’s a shock; you lose your fine motor skills. Panic may set in and this is the moment you need to keep calm and defend yourself”, says Yates.
This 3 hour interactive empowerment class will cover a variety of useful and powerful techniques including kicks, strikes, defense from grabs and defense from ground attacks. Participants will have the opportunity to practice full-force on a padded attacker. The verbal and physical safety skills that are learned can be applied to situations in the workplace, on the street, and in the home. This is not a martial arts class. The demonstrated techniques require minimal physical fitness and are beneficial to women of any size. Participants should dress in comfortable, work-out attire.
KSN Michael Yates has studied martial arts for over 20 years. He owns and operates Kuk Sool Won of Pekin with his wife, DBN Teresa, son, JKN Tristen, and daughter, DBN Madison.
