Event Description
"Behind the Curtain" historic tours of the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts (BCPA) will be offered to the general public.. Led by trained docents, "Behind the Curtain" tours offer a look at the history and architecture of this 86-year-old Bloomington landmark. Attendees will also receive a behind-the-scenes look at the new features of the renovated BCPA and see the many new technical and patron services amenities added to the building which reopened in September 2006.
"Behind the Curtain" tours are free but require a reservation. Interested parties should reserve a tour space by calling Brandy Maloney at 309-434-2785. Tours last approximately one hour.
The BCPA, formerly the Scottish Rite Temple, first opened to the general public in 1921. Built to house the American Passion Play, the building was acquired by the City of Bloomington in 2000. Following a $15 million renovation, the BCPA is now the cornerstone of the City's new Cultural District. It features a 1,200 seat auditorium and an 11,000 square foot ballroom. The building is home to a visiting artist series as well as to many regional performing arts ensembles.
