College for Kids is a summer program held at ICC that combines learning and fun. Classes are in art, adventure, math, science, dance theatre, computers, language and more. This program features classes for students in fourth through tenth grades and runs during two sessions – June 14-24 and July 12-22. While the regular session runs Monday through Thursday for two consecutive weeks, this year’s program includes optional classes held only on Fridays, including one at Wildlife Prairie State Park!
The Monday through Thursday session is entitled “Take a Walk on the Wild Side.” Participants get to learn what it’s like to be a naturalist at WPSP. The class will explore while hiking the wooded trails on the East Peoria campus! They’ll also get to meet some of the State Park’s amazing creatures, including an owl, reptiles, amphibians, and even a skunk.
Some students may want to spend Fridays at WPSP. The Friday class is entitled “Furred and Feathered Fridays.” Students will arrive at the ICC East Peoria Campus (just like regular College for Kids days) and then ride the ICC Cougar Bus to WPSP. There they will spend the day with naturalists, visiting the animals, swooping for bugs, and traipsing the trails. The day will include games, hands-on activities, a train ride, and lunch at the Park!
Hurry! Space is limited and you won’t want to miss out on these WPSP classes! A complete listing of class descriptions and registration materials can be found on-line at www.icc.edu/cfk or phone (309) 999-4579. Registration is now open.
