PEORIA, Ill. -- It was bright and sunny Earth Day and people around the community were celebrating.

Students at Ridgeview Elementary School celebrated the day by collecting plastic caps to recycle.

For every one pound of caps, Five Senses Spa in Peoria donated a dollar to help with water issues around the world.

"Everyone kinda started working together, my grandparents and my mom's co-workers, they were helping us too and it was just kind of fun,” said 5th grader Emily Rankin.

"The bin is extremely packed and that's only over a month and a half,” said Paola Hinton, owner of Five Senses Spa and Salon. “Just making everyone understand that small little piece of something that we do, does make a huge difference."

Ridgeview collected 80 pounds of plastic caps which means $80 will be donated to safer water around the world.
