A tearoom in East Peoria aims to live up to its' name every day at lunch. Eric Shangraw goes for a meal at "Simply Sensational Tearoom and Bakery" in this week's You Gotta Eat.

The Simply Sensational Tea Room is in a rather simply designed building in East Peoria. But what's cooking is terrifically unique and attracting customers of both genders.

"Food is good," says Merle Schmidt. (How about you being a guy in a tearoom?) "You're here!"

"This is my first time here," says Ethel Stoker. "But I will be back."

Owner Joel Hersemann is using recipes from his sister Jamie, as well as his mother and grandmother to make meals for the tearoom and sweets for the bakery, from scratch.

"We don't make our croissants from scratch; we buy those, but everything else," says owner Joel Hersemann.

Photographer Larry Foulk had the barbeque sandwhich featuring two kinds of beef: shredded and ground chuck. We both had the homemade potato chowder with bacon soup. It is thick: red potatoes with the skin still on and lots of secret herbs and spices. I had the quiche. There is a different flavor each day, this was tomato basil in butter crust Thursday. Five cheeses... my masculinity remained in check with each bite. I had the raspberry cream streusel, there number one seller for dessert. Larry thinks he out ordered me with his white chocolate brownie. Lets be men and call is a it a desert draw. Our bill with drinks, 22 dollars plus tip. Simply Sensational is not an exaggeration.

Simply Sensational is on Bloomington Road in East Peoria. That's one block east of the Fundulac Park District Administration building.
They also cater.
