This month "You Gotta Eat" is highlighting local restaurants offering weekly specials aimed at families with little kids.
Tonight Eric Shangraw starts his young–person–tour at Famous Dave's in Bloomington.
On Monday nights, Famous Dave's is like Elementary Barbeque School. First there's the lesson in barbeque sights, smells, and sounds.

Then, the lesson in parental savings: Offspring, ten and under, eat for a buck. There's also the marketing lesson: the restaurant finding a way to bring in families on a traditionally slow night.
They want to take them out for the kids to start off a good week at school. The parents come out and we offer a discount. It doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
You can eat a wing and a leg... or no meat at all.
They get what they want. They get refills. They both enjoy the meals. And since he's a vegetarian, and he's a meat eater, we can cater to both of them.
It is kid friendly because there is lots of stuff to look at, the coloring menus are the best in town. And the kids just have a lot of fun.
I eat the salmon salad, so I'm not a big barbecue eater. But the kids like the chicken fingers so we are good.
News 25 Assignment Editor Leon Hendricks is a big barbeque eater. Leon and I ordered the upside down garbage lid sampler. –Eight different components of a glorious Sunday picnic on a red and white–checkered table cloth. Little Erica ordered the kids rib meal... takes after his Daddy... a real carnivore. Little Jeffrey ordered the kids cheeseburger. He finished it off, no problem. We failed at the big savings. Leon and I ordered the most expensive item on the menu... so even though the kids only cost a buck... our bill was still 41–dollars plus tip. But we had enough leftovers to get Leon lunch tomorrow. If you're more financially strategic in your order, a family of four can get out the door for less than twenty bucks. Eric Shangraw News 25.
Famous Dave's charges one dollar for kids ages ten and under on Monday's from four until ten. –Two kids per adult qualify for the promotion.
