This month You Gotta Eat is highlighting restaurants offering deals for the youngest members of your family.
This week Eric Shangraw brings his old side kick and a couple kids along for lunch at Carlos O'Kelly's.
Carlos O'Kelly's offers reliable Tex–Mex every day of the week. But on Sunday's... it may test even better if you're a family of five with three young mouths to feed.
We love it because the kids eat cheap. We come here after church on Sundays pretty often.
It is not just Mexican food. They also have chicken and hamburgers for the kids, too.
Including a drink, kids eat for 99–cents or a $1.99... depending on what they order.... young families see it as a bargain.
If we go out to eat, we're spending 40 or 50 dollars feeding our kids because meals are four or five dollars. But here they are 99–cents on Sundays, so that's a nice deal.
Rural Food critic Don Washburn came out of retirement for our Sunday brunch. He had the #3 Combination Diner. A ground beef, bean and cheese burrito. A cheese and onion Enchilada. And a ground beef Enchilada and a ground beef Taco.
It turned out to be to much food for a retired camera man...his appetite isn't what it used to be.
He brought along 12–year old Mo... who ordered the kids ground beef combo. It was gone in a matter of moments. I had the Chimichanga Dinner... deep fried flour tortilla with shredded beef inside. Not heart healthy, but good. And my guest, little Rachael...ordered Mac and Cheese... a favorite for those undeveloped palates which don't eat what they don't recognize.
Our bill with drinks 30–dollars... but the kids wanted dessert...and they wanted something big. So each little member of our party finished with a chocolate brownie sundae. That kicked the bill up to forty–one bucks plus tip. Have dessert at home and you'll enjoy Sunday savings at Carlos O'Kelly's.
Carlos O'Kelly's has restaurants in Peoria and Bloomington.
The kids' discount is good only on Sundays at both locations.
