A little restaurant in Peoria is well known to some local college students studying to be nurses.
Eric Shangraw goes for lunch at Nick's Deli in this week's you gotta eat.
Nick's Deli is on St. Mark Court in Peoria. Its' in the Plaza Medical Arts Building which sits across the street from the Methodist College of Nursing. On any given weekday... you'll find a group of nurses–to–be gabbing about school... which may be a good thing if you're looking for a date.
There is always nurses here. It is a good place for us. (If you are a single guy and looking for someone to meet, is this a place to come?) Definitely!
We come here often. We come for a lunch break from school. They have super–good sandwiches.
The Deli is run by Sarraf family. Nick Sarraf opened this shop 18–year ago in this same location... and says his lunch special has only increased a dollar since then. Each morning Nick is in here at six am to start making his trademark sweet bread...which definitely sets his bread apart from the competition.
The customers keep coming back and they are very happy, so I'm very happy, too. I mean 18–years. If I wasn't doing good.... You know what I mean? (I would not be here)
Photographer Larry Faulk ordered the Club Sub: Its half a loaf of sweet bread with ham, turkey, bacon, provolone cheese, mayo, lettuce and tomato. I had the Super Sub: its loaded with four kinds of meat, ham, salami, baloney, provolone cheese, mayo, lettuce and tomato on that six hour old bread. We both agreed this is an exceptional sandwich for such a little deli. We also had chips and drink. Our bill: $11.69. Nick's is a classic little Peoria joint that's full of good Peoria people and good bread.
Nick's Deli is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 in the morning until five at night.
He's closed on the weekends.
