Chang's Wok Inn brings authentic Chinese options to Peoria

PEORIA, Ill -- The promise of another amazing meal at Chang's Wok Inn is as enticing as the warm and welcoming atmosphere inside.

"So far, most people when they try it, they like it," said Owner Hong Chang. "So we're happy."

With three menus to choose from (lunch, dinner, and authentic Chinese), there are a few selections for vegans and especially, vegetarians.

"We all know vegetables are good for your health," Chang says. "So we're trying to make what tastes different taste better, so we can bring a good dish to the customer."

Chang tells us the chefs come from Chicago with many years of experience cooking Chinese cuisines.

"I go to a lot of Chinese restaurants," said first-time customer Brittany Davis Moldenhauer. "There are a few that I frequent in this area, and I would definitely put this in my top."

Josh Simon had the Mongolian Beef lunch special with a side of Crab Rangoon and Egg Drop Soup as an appetizer.

While Josh enjoys Chinese food, he feels it often tastes similar at different restaurants.

He calls Chang's an exception and says he was very surprised to have a meal so good.

I mirror those sentiments.

The House Special Eggplant off the authentic menu is presented as an aesthetic masterpiece.

Simple slices of eggplants prepared over the chef's sauce made in the kitchen with rice on the side.

Food this healthy rarely tastes this good.

Our meals with a soft drink and Tsingtoa beer, a sure sign of authentic Chinese, came to $28.51 plus tip.

If you haven't noticed yet, I could not give a higher recommendation for a restaurant.

My meal was a piece of art in every way.

"We are trying to introduce some new dishes to the American people, because they are good dishes," Chang says. "And we want people to try it."

Chang's Wok Inn is on North Knoxville in Peoria near Route 6.

They are open during lunch hours and dinner hours Monday through Friday and from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
