PEORIA, Ill. -- In tonight's You Gotta Eat, It's a trip back to the "Famous City Bistro" to see how the business has changed since it opened.
The "Famous City Bistro" is located at Sheridan and Glen in Peoria. But the idea is you can get signature meals - sandwiches mostly - from cities around the country.
After a year in business, the owner says the concept is being fine-tuned only a little.
"We've made a couple modifications but mainly what we started with," said owner Ken Humphrey. "We've improved everything so, you know we're having a sandwich for all the famous cities and, you know, it's just done very well."
Over the year the restaurant has been in business, its attracted it's share of regulars, including a couple of ladies, Phyllis and Carol, who brought their friend Deb Schneider in with them today it's her first time here.
So, what to have for lunch? Ken suggested the Miami Cuban. Lighter and healthier, it's pulled pork and sliced pork loin, pressed and grilled with pickle fillets, and melted swiss cheese with mustard on Cuban bread.
Joe Bennett ordered the "Famous City" Hickory Burger. A grilled ground chuck burger with hickory smoked bacon, grilled onions, melted pepper jack cheese, and barbeque sauce.
I've gotta tell ya, the Cuban is a very good sandwich. The blend of pork and cheese and mustard, makes it really flavorful.
Joe was raving about his burger. The bacon, cheese and barbeque sauce just right; he thinks there ought to be a city named after the sandwich, instead of the other way around.
We both topped off our lunches with a chocolate torte. Our bill came to $39.20, with soft drinks and side orders plus tip.
"Famous City Bistro" also offers a drive-thru service or you can call ahead and pick up your order to go.
