EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- In the spirit of the Olympics, the eating team is exploring international cuisine over the next few weeks.
We start our tour the All-American way by diving into a classic burger.
Welcome to the newest location of the Burger Barge. The 7,000 square foot space gives customers the freedom to eat in one of three dining areas; the captain's quarter's, the boardwalk or the beach club.
Each has its own kitchen.
"We thought it'd be really great if we could have the separate kitchens and be able to get our food out, better quality and quicker," said co-owner Jeniffer Adams.
"I get something different usually but my favorite is the Illinois burger. It's got a nice spicy dock sauce with it. It's a sauce they make in house here," said customer Bob Reed.
There's also an ice cream shop and children have the independence to ride the carousel and play arcade games.
"It's great. There's not enough places like this," said customer Joyce Brooks.
But the menu remains the bright star with 21 burgers and any topping you can think of.
Chad and I found our pursuit of happiness in the beach club dreaming of white sand and warm sun.
In honor of American president Abe Lincoln, I ordered the Illinois burger. It's loaded with bacon, cheese, onions and mushrooms. I also added grilled pineapple.
For the side, breaded cheese blobs.
Chad braved the "Kraken." The monstrous burger is layered with onion rings, cheese sauce, bacon, lettuce and tomato.
One bite and it all fell apart but in true USA spirit, he didn't give up and finished it.
I took the liberty of trying chocolate covered bacon for dessert. Then got a little exercise with a quick game of skee-ball.
Our patriotic meal came to $25.76 plus tip.
The Burger Barge II opens at 11 a.m. daily and closing hours vary.
