Tonight, News 25 Sports Director Lee Hall joins us for You Gotta Eat.

Not normally a morning person, Lee steps out of his comfort zone for a breakfast trip to the Fresh Table café.

A visit to the Fresh Table Café is a bit like stepping into a time machine; back to a simpler time.

You want to go where everybody knows your name, right? Well, if they don't know it when you walk in, they will before you leave.

That small-town feel doesn't end with the hospitality. The sign out front says farm-to-table café, and they mean it. There's no freezer, so everything is fresh. Just like mom used to make it.

Photographer Dave Janssen and I ordered a good, old-fashioned breakfast.

DJ ordered a couple of eggs, with ham and hash browns. He then proceeded to make it some sort of breakfast goulash -- mixing and mashing.

“Just right,” he said.

My plate was neater and just as delicious. A ham and egg omelet so fresh you could almost hear the chickens clucking. Every bite was a light, heavenly delight. A little wheat toast with strawberry jam made for the perfect meal.

Our bill, $20-40 plus tip.

The Fresh Table Café is open Tuesday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. for breakfast and lunch.

They are located at 201 E. Lake Street in Peoria.

The Fresh Table Café: like a trip back home.
