Let's be honest here.. some guys think "romantic" is anyplace without a big screen tv and peanut shells on the floor. But let's take it a step up, shall we.

Jim's Steak House is located in Peoria's Janssen Building --one floor down.

That ought to tell you that this isn't the average restaurant in Central Illinois.

Candles on the tables, live music in the background, all add to the atmosphere.

If you're going to Jim's for lunch, there's a buffet table with a variety of main courses and desserts.

That's where we find photographer Larry Foulk, who decided on prime rib for his first time through the line.

Me? I ordered off the menu. Asalad and the beef stroganoff, because i like beef stroganoff and I hadn't had it for a while.

It was hot, and filled with meat, mushrooms and noodles.

Larry gave a thumbs up to the prime rib, and went back to the serving line.

For dessert, I dug into a 'death by chocolate" cake. Larry had a smaller chocolate offering. Then again...because he went through the buffet line....he went back and got a second one.

But, if you're planning to come here on Valentine's Day...

Kristin Comfort suggests "Our Valentine's special, we're going to have a couples special. Two 6 oz filets, lobster and two chocolate covered strawberries and champaign."

Not coming on Valentine's day? Kristin reccomends the aged steak for that special dinner.

Our tab came to $36.85 --with my iced tea... and a couple of those chocolate covered cherries (we decided to bring back to our spouses -- to show we cared).

Jim's Steak House is open for lunch Monday- Friday from 11-til 2, with dinners available from 5-pm seven days a week. Call 673-5300 for reservations.
