BAY VIEW GARDEN, Ill. -- Right as you enter Bay View Garden on IL-26, you'll find Montgomery's Café.

The three-week-old business is run by the husband and wife team of Brian and Kim Montgomery.

"We just want this to be a hometown family place," said Kim. "That's what we've strived since the beginning."

"It's kind of like a melting pot for everybody," said Brian. "Everybody comes here and kind of gossip's about what's going on."

And they can gossip over breakfast, something Brian says wasn't in close proximity to the population of 400.

There's also lunch and dinner options, such as soups, tenderloins and burgers.

Friday is fish night and Wednesday is fried chicken night.

"I will put my fried chicken to anybody's, anybody's," continued Brian. "I know it's a bold statement, but there's a well-known fried chicken establishment around here that all the locals say don't even compare to us."

I enjoy a good piece of chicken, but love breakfast.

So, I ordered Doug's Big Breakfast, with the half-order of homemade biscuits and gravy. Caffeine is a must.

Chad followed my lead and got the meat lovers skillet.

It was all fulfilling, but Chad made sure to put the cherry on top of our meal with pie, which is also homemade.

That gave us a total of $19.11.

Montgomery's café is located at 1510 Spring Bay Road. You can reach them at (309) 822-1101.

It opens everyday at 5 a.m., but only serves dinner on Monday's, Wednesday's and Friday's.
