SPEER, Ill. -- Tanner's Orchard, the family owned business, has been welcoming visitors for apples and much more since 1947.
In fact, "Orchard" really doesn't describe everything that goes on there.
OK, if that's what they call it agri-tainment it is.
It's eating, shopping, playing, feeding the goats, corn maze, you name it.
It's defiantly a destination in Central Illinois. Last year, 77,000 people came during September and October.
That was just on the weekends.
Tanner's is always expanding and this year, it was the dining area which was enlarged.
"We've added on to our garden room to make more seating area for our lunches," said Jennifer Beaver of Tanners. "Our lunch business has grown quite a bit and we were running out of room. And we've expanded the lunch and people really enjoy it. Monday through Friday you can eat in the market. We serve a real nice lunch, we have deli sandwiches, grilled sandwiches, salads, wraps and a daily special. On Saturdays and Sundays you can eat up in the old market eatery which is grilled sandwiches, rib eyes pork chops, that kind of stuff.
As always, you stand in line, order from the menu and find a seat.
Your order is now brought to you.
Someday, Jennifer Beaver says, they might just get a waitresses.
I got the grilled pot-roast sandwich with cheese and a slice of pumpkin pie.
Joe picked out the meat lover's wrap.
Whoever thought of making a grilled pot-roast sandwich should get an award. It's comfort food made more comfortable.
Joe said his wrap was better than any number of wraps made at fast food places at comparable prices.
Our meals came to a total of $21.80.
Tanners is open seven days a week through October from 8:00 AM til 8:00 PM in November, they are closed Sundays.
