Tonight on You Gotta Eat, we take a short drive for a quick lunch and don't confuse "quick lunch" with "fast food".
I'd had dinner at Two25 the restaurant at the Mark Twain Hotel before. This is a place that has escargot on the menu and I've eaten kangaroo here. There is an extensive lunch menu, but today it was pizza I was looking for.
"I would say we've got the best pizza downtown. I might say it might be the best pizza in Peoria," said Steve Fosdick of Two25. "We make our dough fresh every day, not frozen. Not brought in from someplace else. Made fresh. We bake it up and put them on the table every day."
With Caterpillar headquarters largely on vacation, it was easy to get a table for lunch. That's not always true. In fact, if there's more than four of you, phone for reservations.
Mark Twain owner Bud Greeves probably doesn't need reservations but he was eating at his own restaurant. Probably a good sign.
Photographer Larry Foulk and I started with greens from the salad bar so I could convincingly say I had my veggies today.
Then on to the pizza table. There's a nice variety here, from thin crust to thick, and a variety of toppings. I was really taken by the barbecue chicken pizza with Sweet Baby Ray Sauce. I went back for more, and so did Larry.
Two25 offers an opportunity to mix the words gourmet and buffet.
Our bill, with endless soft drinks, came to $20.03 plus tip.
Two25 opens for lunch at 11, dinner at 4:30 and is closed on Sundays.
