Uncle Buck's Fish bowl and Grill is located at the Bass Pro Shops in East Peoria. By now, you know where that's at.
I kind of thought that photographer Doug Smith and I might be the only people to come here just to eat...as opposed to taking a break from shopping.
I was wrong. Uncle Buck's is bar, grill...and bowling. A Destination.
Phillip Svetich, Restaurant Manager says "I don't think people know exactly what to expect when they come in. I've been here since there was dust and construction and I'm still finding things I haven't seen. You get a lot of oh cool!', you know."
Like the sharks on the wall for example.
Doug and I decided to go with the specialties on the starter menu.
I ordered the venison stuffed mushrooms with cheese, while Doug had the breaded Alligator. The venison has a little kick to it...which is good. Six mushrooms are plenty for one person.
Even so, I filched some of Doug's alligator. It's spicy...Phillip the manager says it's a secret recipe. It comes with a jalapeno jelly, which could take the bite off the spicy alligator...if that's what you want.
My main course was the Islamora fish sandwich...grilled Tilapia with cheese and sauteed onions, served with fries and cole slaw.
Doug had the BBQ pork blowout...a Kaiser bun overflowing with pulled pork, and "ranch wedges" instead of fries.
It was all good! And filling. If you can have dessert after eating all this, you've got a bigger appetite than us...and that's saying something.
Our bill --with sweet teas -- came to $43.02
Uncle Buck's is open seven days a week starting at 11AM.
