You Gotta Eat: Weaver Ridge

PEORIA, Ill. -- Weaver Ridge is a golf course, of course, and given the weather, we figured fewer folks might be hitting the 19th hole for lunch.

We were wrong. Not for the first time.

We immediately were reccommended the wings and Hector the chef said the BBQ ribs were a favorite item.

Former Peoria Councilman and County Board member Garry Stella had his own suggestion.

Everybody had their own idea and the menu is extensive. But, I went on-line early to the restaurant website--- and wanted crab cakes. A favorite of mine since I lived in Baltimore for a couple of years.

Photographer Doug Smith went for the butterfly porkchop.

I started with a cup of chili --with onion and cheese. Doug liked the look of it so much, he ordered his own.

The crabcake pannini was a combination of crisp toasted bread and soft crab. Add tartar sauce to taste.

I oversauced, which made things messy and tasty. Doug liked his pork chop and chili.

If you've got folks coming in for the holidays, maybe you too can get the table by the fireplace for a quiet --good --lunch.

Our bill, with drinks, was $35.20.

The WeaverRidge restaurant is open for lunch and dinner starting at 11, with later closing hours on the weekend.

After the holidays, the restaurant will be closed on Mondays until Spring.
