A Peoria restaurant offers classic recipes from the Midwest.

The Brickhouse American Grille replaced Cheddars a few years back.

Eric Shangraw is having the daily lunch special there in this week's You Gotta Eat.

The Brickhouse is what its namesake indicates. An all brick building with fresh cooked meals like they came from Aunt Bea's house. Annie Merkle just polished off a memory inducing mushroom burger

"Which reminded me of the one we used to have when I was young at the drive-in at Kramers which later became Jumors," said Larimore.

The Brickhouse kept the most popular menu items and recipes from its predecessor.

"Our chicken tenders are really a main stay here," said Manager Robert Ridley. "It is a carry-over from our old company which was Cheddars. And we kept those because it is a local favorite. We also kept our country fried steak for those that like those. And our ribs; fall off the bone," he said.

"I had a grilled chicken salad and a wonderful roll. They just brought us new ones because the first go around wasn't so good," said customer Diane Thompson.

Give them credit for making it right! Photographer Larry Faulk had a combo lunch; The Crispy Chicken Wrapper is consisted of those fried chicken tenders with lettuce, tomato, bacon and mixed cheese wrapped in a short tomato tortilla with honey mustard dressing. Larry's says its his daughters favorite pick when she's back visiting from college. He also had a double baked potato; its re-baked mashed potatoes with cheese, bacon and sour cream and paprika sprinkled on top. He also had a bowl of chili. I had the Brickhouse Chicken Smashers; Crispy-diced chicken tenders with country-gravy over a mound of mashed spuds. As filling as it gets served with broccoli cheese soup. Larry talked me into sharing the monster cookie dessert. Chocolate chip goodness with ice-cream and whipped cream. Its a great closer.

Our bill $26.19 plus tip. The Brickhouse is a sturdy place to steady your appetite. The Brickhouse is open seven days a week. Call ahead for carry-out.
