A little ice-cream stand in Canton does big business on a sunny day like this one.

Hannam's Dairy Dream is a Fulton County landmark.

Eric Shangraw is having lunch there in this week's You Gotta Eat.

Thirty years in the same family. Hannam's Dairy Dream is one business that's thrived even during Canton's tough economic times.

Jan and Garry Hannam have passed the 15-hundred square feet seasonal spot on to their son Brad. But one of the family trio is still always here during business hours running the grill and making sure customers are happy.

"We have good products we put out," said Jan. "Reasonably priced. Our customers love us," she said.

"We are famous for lemon ice cream," said Brad. "Double cheese burgers. Lot of recipes have been passed down from generations," he said.

"People come from all over for this food," said customer Jim Malone. "Obviously you know that. You're here!" he said.

The Dairy Dream menu runs the gamut. Chili dogs, hot dogs, hamburgers and tenderloins. All kinds of ice cream flavors and shakes. We took our bag of goodies outside and ate on one of the Dream's concrete picnic tables. Photographer Larry Faulk had the tenderloin with everything but onion. I had the pizza burger. It is a hamburger with Italian seasoning and mozzarella cheese. Deep fried. Goes nicely with a side of marinara sauce. Larry tore into the tenderloin like a hungry Tony the Tiger who missed breakfast. We both had fries and a soft drink for $14.48. We went back for the real good stuff. I had the lemon ice cream. This is a Hannam family recipe. The neon color instinctively prepares one for tart bite. But the lemon coldness has a gentle flavor and soothing taste. Larry had a cake sundae. The cake is made from scratch. Larry downed the treat like it was his last. It was another four-and-a-half dollars for dessert. This is our new warm weather favorite when coming through Canton.
Hannam's Dairy Dream is open seven days a week between February and October. The family works 276 days straight each year before taking any time off.
