The station mgt. suggested I feature a restaurant close to the station because of today's big snow.
Youssef's is one of the first places I sampled when I first got hired here 23 years ago. It is right down the hill (Springfield Road) from the station. About 2.5 miles at the crow flies.
Bakhos is one of those great people to know. He's always smiling. And always pushing his food. It is fresh. The place is a little disheveled but gets good scores from the Health Department. He really was making his Mama's Tabouli when we showed up.
Doug skipped the cucumber sauce and onions on his Gyro. He says it gives him an upset stomach.
Bakhos has old photographs of Garry Moore and former 25er Fraser Engerman eating more than a dozen Gyro's in a fundraiser for St. Jude. The pics where taken back in 1986. He says they helped raise lots of money. Fraser is now at State Farm. Garry, still doing the early morning show.
We'll be back Bakhos!
