A unique science project that students love will continue at a local middle school thanks to this week's One Class at a Time Grant.

Mrs. Chris Short from Georgetown Middle School in Marquette Heights is this week's recipient from HOI 19 and Cefcu. She will use the $1,000 to do another "Junk Box Wars" unit.

Students are put into groups and given a box full of things like newspaper, a glue gun and string. Then they are given the challenge to build something--like a boat--using only those items.

Chris Short said, "We are working on team building skills. Not only are we applying math skills, reading skills, they are also working on those team building concepts as well and working with people that they may not always work with."

A student said, "We are working on bridges now and we got index cards, cds straws and pipe cleaners. So is it fun? It's a lot of fun."
