Last year, Japanese Beetles came a month earlier in June. Now that it’s July, we are starting to see them show and rear their ugly mouths. Ella Maxwell of Hoerr Nursery says to check your plants every day. They show up on Porcelain Berry vines or Grape vines and eat every leaf by “skeletonizing” (eating between the veins & stems). There severals chemicals to treat them and popular brands are Sevin or Carbaryl. There are also floating row covers, for fruit you need to harvest (because you can’t spray the fruit); which can be tied on poles above the plants. And finally, there are also Japanese Beetle traps you are able to use.
