Now that we're back outside in the sunshine, it's important to get back into your sunscreen habit too.
Sun damages the DNA in your skin and, of course, increases your risk of skin cancer.
Sunscreen can protect your skin from the sun's damaging rays, but needs to be applied correctly.
Doctors recommend applying sunscreen about 10-15 minutes before going outside so it has a chance to absorb into your skin, and don't skimp on the amount.
"If you're putting it on too thin, you're not getting an SPF 30, you're getting more like an SPF 10, so sometimes it's easier to put on a higher potency to get you to 30, but you want to put on a nice, thick coat," said Dr. Melissa Piliang of the Cleveland Clinic.
The American Academy of Dermatology recommends choosing a sunscreen that is SPF 30 or more and 'broad spectrum' to protect against UVA and UVB rays.
And don't forget to reapply sunscreen at least every two hours. Especially if you're swimming or sweating.
