BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The police departments in Bloomington and Normal are now equipped with more than 40 new portable defibrillators.
The life-saving devices were acquired through a grant from the Illinois Heart and Lung Foundation.
They'll be installed in police vehicles to speed the response time to help a person in cardiac arrest.
"We just felt it was one less thing they have to think about. It becomes more repetition, it becomes more muscle memory for them that if that's their vehicle they know where its at so when they respond to a call they know they have that equipment with them," Chief Rick Bleichner said.
