BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- McLean County Business owners struggling with the Affordable Care Act are receiving a helping hand.

On Thursday, the Employers' Coalition for Healthcare Inc. and Health Alliance Medical Plans hosted a seminar on the ACA.

Employers are mandated by the ACA to offer full time employees, defined as working 30 or more hours a week, health insurance.

While the Affordable Care Act takes effect January 1, 2014, the employer mandated has been delayed until 2015.

“We had a lot of heartburn about well now am I going to have to offer coverage to a whole category of employees that I didn't typically offer to, to protect myself from additional penalties and that's still a consideration when we get to 2015, but it gives them more time to at least plan and prepare,” said Laura Minzer, Executive Director, Health Care Council for the Illinois Chamber of Commerce.

Businesses with less than 50 employees are not subject to the employer mandate.

The Small Business Administration is hosting free weekly ACA webinars every Thursday in September.
