Powerful, new TV ads released Monday put a face to the scary, deadly effects of smoking.

Terrie Hall, featured in multiple ads, has a device to help her talk because cancer forced the removal of her voice box.

Terrie died last year at age 53 but the CDC is using her final days to emphasize its nine-week "Tips from Former Smokers” campaign.

The agency hopes to capture the attention of young adults.

Since the initiative started three years ago, more than 100,000 people have quit smoking.
