Every day 1 in 25 patients is sickened by a hospital-acquired infection.

The latest numbers from the CDC show nearly 650,000 patients contracted an infection during their hospital stay in 2011.

The most common infections were pneumonia, surgical site infections and stomach bugs.

Surprisingly, the rate of these illnesses has actually improved over the past few years.
