WASHINGTON, DC -- The U.S. House passed a measure Wednesday that would create a concealed carry permit from one state valid in any state that already allows citizens to carry concealed weapons.
Tuesday, an amendment that would have allowed Illinois residents to obtain out-of-state gun-carry permits and use them legally in Illinois failed.
Illinois remains the only state in the Union which bans all concealed carry gun permits.
Backers of concealed carry said Chicago-area politicians have quashed the issue, despite pleas from downstate legislators.
