A new study is showing hope for a new treatment and possible cure for diabetes patients.

Columbia University Medical Center research shows retraining cells of the small intestine can produce insulin and regulate blood sugar.

Doctors say it could take up to two years to create the treatment but they've targeted the gene for the medication.

The drug would likely be used with insulin injections until a cure is created.
