PEORIA, Ill. -- A group of fourth grade girls are turning tragedy into hope.
Wednesday, the girls donated more than $300 to the Illinois Cancer Center.
The money was raised by selling handmade bracelets and hair bows in honor of their former teacher Amy Jo Loser-Colgan of Limestone Walters.
The second grade teacher lost her battle to cancer just last month.
"She was just a great teacher, and she was sick for a long time," said Kortney Stage.
"It was devastating that we lost her and we didn't want anyone to have to go through that tragic moment where someone dies again," said Isabella Stevens.
"It's bringing tears to my eyes. It is so sweet and I think it is the nicest representation of the spirit Christmas and the charity and love that we see in children that I could ever think off," Dr. Francois Geoffroy said as he fought back tears.
The girls said they are just happy to make a difference in the battle against cancer.
