ATLANTA -- A new study finds HPV-related cancers are on the rise, despite the availability of two vaccines that protect against the sexually transmitted infection.
The latest figures from the American Cancer Society show only one-third of girls aged 13 to 17 had received all three doses of the HPV vaccine in 2010.
Researchers say more efforts are needed to increase the number of girls being vaccinated in order to reverse this trend.
There was some good news as well: the report showed that overall, cancer death rates in the United States are continuing to decline.
This study was led by researchers at the American Cancer Society and published in 'Journal of the National Cancer Institute'.
