Study looks at why dark chocolate is good for you

Researchers at Louisiana State University say they have solved the mystery of why dark chocolate is good for us.

Using a model to simulate digestion, they discovered compounds in chocolate are absorbed by so-called 'good' bacteria in the stomach.

These microbes then grow and ferment producing anti-inflammatory compounds.

When these compounds are absorbed by the body, they reduce inflammation of heart tissue and decrease the risk of long-term stroke.
