Study shows significant increase in autism cases

(NBC News) Autism Spectrum Disorder is a complicated condition in which children generally have impaired social and behavioral skills.

There is no known single cause and no cure. 

Now a startling new report finds the number of children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder is rising.

"We estimate that one in 68 children have been identified with an Autism Spectrum Disorder," said Dr. Coleen Boyle of the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities.

The review of school and medical records represents a 30-percent increase from similar data two years ago. 

There are better diagnostic tools and greater awareness, but no one clear reason for the rise.
