Participants find success in web-based weight loss programs

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Internet may be an effective weight loss tool.

A review of 14 studies finds overweight adults who participated in web-based weight loss programs lost more weight than those who were not enrolled in any program.

However, face-to-face classes were the most successful.

Experts say web-based programs still have the potential to impact thousands of people, because doctors can reach more patients when using the web compared to their office.

Another benefit is that web-programs are cost-effective.
