PEORIA, Ill. -- It's another test of self-discovery in this week's Ask Dr. Joy, in the Art of Knowing Yourself kokology quiz.
This little exercise tells you a little about meeting someone new or a chance meeting in your life. It actually tells you a little about the impression you make when you meet someone.
Imagine you're in an art museum looking at a painting when a stranger comes up next to you and says something.
Which statement does the stranger say to you?
- Isn't that a beautiful picture?
- What do you think of this picture?
- Excuse me, do you have the time?
- You know, I happen to be a painter myself.
Here are the meanings:
Isn't this a beautiful picture?: You are friendly and positive and make a great impression with almost everyone you meet. You may wonder if people take you seriously at first.
What do you think of this painting?: You are the kind of person who "likes to feel out" the situation before you commit yourself to anything. People tend to be able to sense your hesitancy and they may hold back a little with you.
Excuse me, do you have the time?: The world sees you as an "individualist" and people might call you a little eccentric. However, you really don't place a whole lot of importance on what others think of you.
You know, I happen to be a painter myself: You may seem really nervous around others and tend to fumble around when first meeting people. You want to be liked, but sometimes it feels like the harder you try, the more awkward it gets. The key is to just be yourself, and not worry so much about others.
