PEORIA, Ill. -- Last week, Dr. Joy began her segment looking at the 5 guidelines to move on from a marriage or relationship. The top two reasons were investigated and tonight, she looks at the other 3.
· Get over the past. Let go of jealousy, anxiety and fear. It's time to move on.
· Those who hold on to strong emotions with their exs have a poor chance for moving on in a healthy fashion.
· Talk to a therapist, keep a journal and find ways to move on from your last relationship.
And what about those who blame their ex?
· Those who blame their ex tend to have more anxiety, depression and sleep disorders.
· Those who hold on to anger tend to have a more difficult time moving on in relationships
· 65 percent of divorcees in the study tended to blame their ex (80 percent of women blamed an ex husband, and 47 percent of men blamed their ex wife)
· The key is to look at the relationship and realize that you both did things that created the breakup and destruction of the relationship.
· If you start to blame your partner, move from a place of putting blame on your partner and look at how you contribute to a problem
