PEORIA, Ill. -- In tonight's Dr Joy segment, we discuss just what can ruin the holiday season.

It sounds a little odd to be talking what can certainly put an end to the joyous holiday season, but for many of us it is a time of stress and anxiety.

Tonight, we will look at the first in a two-part series about things that will guarantee your holidays will be filled with bah-humbugs and stress & then next week we will focus on the ways to insure your holiday is filled with joy.

The following are primary reasons that would destroy any holiday season:

1. Forget the basics: Don't sleep, don't eat well, don't exercise, all of those all add up to anxiety, depression, and overdoing it. If you want to create havoc for yourself during the holidays, just focus on not caring for yourself

2. Focus on the have nots: Look at all the things you are missing and don't have; it's a sure way to bring sadness, despair and depression into your holiday season

3. Overspend: Make sure you buy more than you can possibly afford so that you can remember how much you went overboard throughout all of 2013. Overspending is a gift that keeps giving.

4. Be Martha Stewart. Sure, she has a whole team of people working for her to make those holidays look spectacular, but if you really were perfect you could recreate all of that by yourself.

Other things to avoid:

1. Over-commit whenever possible: Learn to never say "no" and agree to everything. It will make you tired, crabby, and insure that you have no time to do anything for yourself. Remember that the holidays are meant to have every moment filled

2. Think of all the bad times in the past: If you want to insure that you are miserable this holiday, just remind yourself of all of the times when you were neglected, ignored, or didn't have happiness. It is a sure way to destroy the holiday season.

3. Focus only on yourself: Forget the family, and everyone around you, just focus on your needs, wants and desires. This is the best way to destroy your holiday season and make everyone around you miserable

Remember that next week, we will look at all the ways to bring true joy to your holiday season.
