Every year Americans create resolutions for the coming year, but how many of us are successful with the resolutions we set for ourselves? This year, Dr. Joy Miller has some suggestions to help you master your resolutions so they really manifest in 2012.
What are some of the reasons people don't succeed with their resolutions?
· They make resolutions for someone else vs. themselves
· They make resolutions that are out of reach
· They make resolutions that are not really what they desire
So what eight suggestions will assist our efforts to really reach our resolutions in 2012?
a. Know why: You have to ask yourself what you really want, and know why you want it. If you are doing something because you "should" or "have to", then you probably won't succeed
b. Know yourself. Too often we get in our own way and sabotage our success. If you don't believe you can accomplish a goal, then you are sabotaging your success
c. Take baby steps: Break down your intentions into baby steps to guarantee your success. Giant goals are set ups for failures
d. Forget perfection: Set goals that are general and not ridged. Be gentle with yourself and look for progress vs. perfection
e. Set goals that match your values. Success is only possible when you choose a goal that is something that has value to you. Make sure you are choosing a goal that relates to something you desire vs someone else's goal of value
f. Pick acceptance: Deprivation never works… so if you decide to totally give up something you will most probably fail. Look for moving towards goals that are attainable and focus on successes.
g. Check in: Every week take time to evaluate and witness the progress you have made and the methods you might utilize to be more successful
h. Lastly… Be loving. If you don't meet all of your expectations and goals, be gentle with yourself and be proud of what you have done to change behaviors-and the things that you have done that have made a difference.
