It is the 25th of the month and time for Buddy Check.
Doctors say women and even some men should begin annual mammograms at age 40.
If you wait until you feel a lump,.it may be too late.
The woman you're about to meet explains why it's so important to get screened.

"We were walking along in the Race for the Cure...just happy as could be, but guess what...little did I know that I had breast cancer also. Because a few days from then I discovered something was wrong... something was wrong with my breast and I didn't know why," said Georiga Little.

At the time Georgia Little was 62–years–old and recently retired. She had had a mammogram less than a year earlier...but she noticed a change in her breast and pressured her doctor to do another screening right away. And if she hadn't.

"You wouldn't be talking to me today...because mine was very, very aggressive... it was a big mass."

Stage–two breast cancer.

"They put the two mammograms side by side and you could tell the difference right there. It wasn't there like six months ago," said Little.

After a lumpectomy... chemotherapy...and radiation... Georgia beat the disease.

Now...almost 10 years later... she never misses an opportunity to tell anyone who will listen... to take the time to get an annual mammogram.

"That's what you do for yourself...and if you don't do it for yourself, nobody can do it for you," said Little.

Georgia is quick to add that lack of insurance is no excuse –not– to get screened... Komen for the Cure... your local Health Department and others have resources available to help cover the costs of a mammogram.

Don't put your health on the back burner.

Georgia Little has her mammogram scheduled. Do you?

As part of Buddy Check 25, remember to schedule your annual mammogram and do your breast self–exam and remind a buddy to do theirs as well.
