Friday is National Mammography Day, and heads at Peoria's Susan G. Komen for the Cure affiliate announced options for women looking to maintain their breast health are expanding.
Directors at Komen announced the Heartland Community Health Clinic will now offer breast and cervical cancer screenings to women without insurance.
The service will cover Peoria, Woodford and Marshall counties.
The program is run through the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program.
Directors say many of the women currently enrolled in the program were already Heartland patients.
"So it was a very good mission fit for us, and because we do have the primary care providers and other support services for women, I think that's another reason why we are a good home for this particular program," said Heartland CEO Farrell Davies.
Directors at the Komen affiliate also announced it is expanding and reaching 22 additional counties across Illinois.
