The percentage of college students considered obese is rising but a new study is trying to combat the issue through mentors.

The University of Florida is a test-school for the program.

The program is called 'Get Fruved' to promote eating more fruits and vegetables.

Mentors will help students--identified as obesity-prone by showing them how to eat healthy, manage stress, and develop an exercise regimen.

"Coming away from home, making your own new relationships, finding other people who also have those same values for health will ensure that you follow through with the intentions more often,” said Professor and Dietitian Dr. Anne Mathews.

The peer mentors will be trained this year and at-risk students will be chosen in 2015 through a survey.
