One trending way for mothers to give birth has no proven health benefits.

Guidelines from pediatrician and OB/GYN groups state using a birthing pool for the first stages of labor is safe for healthy women and can even help manage pain and shorten labor.

But they warn there are no health advantages for the mother or baby associated with underwater births.

The report recommends underwater births be an experimental procedure until safety measures are improved.
