CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Illinois Department of Education announced Thursday that the state unemployment rate was 9.2 percent in August.
The state unemployment rate has been at 9.2 percent over the last three months. It is slightly higher from August 2012's mark of 8.9 percent.
The IDES says that Illinois added 5,900 private sector jobs in August and that total non-farm jobs are up by 55,400 from August of last year.
The national unemployment rate was 7.3 percent, slightly down from July's mark of 7.4 percent. In August of 2012, the national unemployment rate was 8.1 percent.
