PEORIA, Ill. -- A Peoria man is dead after police say he was gunned down Friday night on the city's south side.

Police have a suspect in custody.

A witness to the shooting says the shots were fired after an argument that he heard from inside his home.

Around 10:30 p.m., police responded to a call on the 1800 block of West Butler Street in Peoria.

That's where Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll says 23-year-old Dwight T. McCall, Jr. was found with gunshot wounds.

He was taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, and pronounced dead shortly after eleven.

An autopsy is set for Sunday.

One neighbor, who witnessed the incident from inside his home, says he saw the suspect kick McCall in the face after shooting him.

He says this is the third violent incident to occur on that block within recent weeks.

"What kind of stuff is that and everything that you got to take another person's life. And if you got caught and everything your going to jail for life," said witness, Jimmy Jones.

Peoria police confirm they have arrested 27-year-old Alex Ferguson on charges of first degree murder.

The case remains under investigation.
