Two state congressmen are making a bipartisan push to tackle Illinois' growing heroin problem.

Republican Representative Adam Kinzinger and Democrat Bobby Rush are asking the U.S. Department of Justice to take a comprehensive approach when dealing with heroin use.

Kinzinger and Rush say a combination of medications, counseling and case management can do more to curb heroin abuse than just prison time.

They also say some offender re-entry programs and drug courts have been successful in reducing relapse rates.
