PEORIA, IL -- 61 teachers from District 150 face face lay-offs at Monday night's school board meeting.
27 of those teachers are tenured and face honorable dismissal based upon a reduction in work force.
34 non-tenured teachers face performance-based dismissal during their first four years of teaching.
The educators were notified of the possibility in the last week of March.
Federation President Bob Darling says this is a step in the right direction compared to previous years when upwards of 200 teachers were sometimes pink-slipped.
A District 150 spokesman says honorable dismissals reflect a continued effort to stabilize staffing each year.
As is the case with every year, it is possible some teachers will be re-hired for the next school year.
