STARK COUNTY, Ill. -- Nearly 12 hours after being reported missing from her mother's vehicle, three week old Mia Graci Thompson was found alive Thursday night.
Stark County authorities said the child was found along a rural road.
"For this particular incident, I'm so damn happy I could cry so I hope we get through here," said Stark County Sheriff Jimmie Dison. "The child was found alive on a rural Stark County road where it had either been dumped or placed by subjects unknown."
It was a happy ending to a story that began about 8:00 AM this morning when police were told three week old that Mia Thompson was missing.
The mother, 19 year old Kendra Meaker, told police she noticed her daughter missing after she went to the post office and left Mia and her 11 month sister alone in the car.
However, authorities said Kendra later told police she did not realize Mia was missing until after returning home.
Police questioned Kendra Meaker for much of the afternoon and Thursday night, Mia was found dumped or placed on the side of a rural Gravel road in Stark County.
"The child's mother Kendra Meaker, age 19, has been arrested on charges relating to the incident," said Sheriff Dison. "That's all I have to say right now."
Police reported that Mia is alive and well and was transported to the hospital for examination.
